It was in 2010 at a HIT Scotland event in Edinburgh that Michael Levie CEO, spoke about his brand, CitizenM. There were a handful of CitizenM hotels then, with Glasgow just about to open. Fast forward 10 years and there are now 40 properties open or in development.
The basis of CitizenM is affordable luxury. The rooms are designed specifically to offer minimal, yet contemporary accommodation, with the main focus on the open plan, relaxed, cool and user-friendly communal areas. Self check-in and booking in general is easy and the rooms are perfectly adequate, yet their attention to detail and cleanliness is unrivalled. The tech will remember your favourite light, mood and temperature settings. The iPad controls everything, the double bed is huge, array of TV channels impressive, privacy and sound-proofing undeniably excellent.
The communal areas have a cool vibe cross between coffee shop and juice bar in the morning, functional and comfortable lounging for relaxing or working, to a fun, lively and sociable bistro in the evening.
The selection of CitizenM locations is excellent and growing. Grey Nickel is fortunate enough to have stayed in eight different CitizenMs and they are a ‘go to’ for business travel and city breaks. What we like most is the staff and the concept. Nothing is too much effort, the staff are knowledgeable, pleasant, helpful, well-trained and extremely customer focussed.
It’s a big congratulations from us. Business travel can be a drag, especially when heading back to another hotel room, but CitizenM makes it fun, dynamic and comfortable in a very unique way.
