Billed as ‘The Biggest Cycling Event Ever’, the UCI Cycling World Championship wheels its way into Glasgow and the rest of Scotland from 3rd to 13th August 2023. The cycling boom in Scotland over the past five years has seen record numbers jump on a saddle and head out onto our spectacular roads, trails, and tracks. The arrival of the UCI Cycling World Championship will be a celebration of a sport and pastime that has captured Scotland’s imagination and passion.
At Roots Cycles, we encourage everyone to jump on a bike. The Championship is a microcosm of our wonderful pastime. Competitors of all age, size and ability will head to Scotland and we are proud to be a small part of Scotland’s cycling success.
Over the 11 days, cyclists will compete across 13 World Cycling Championships. From BMX Freestyle to Gran Fondo, and from Para-Cycling Track and Road, to Mountain-Bike Downhill and Cross-Country, all the disciplines are covered. 8000 cyclists from over 120 countries will arrive in Scotland. The world’s best will compete in a festival of cycling and competition like no other.
Stirling will play a large part in the Championship and the region will benefit hugely both economically and socially. The Time Trials (9th to 11th August) will start in Stirling, before heading west, winding, and weaving their way through the local area, culminating with a finish on the Stirling Castle Esplanade. The Time Trails will see riders start at regular intervals and attempt to clock the best time for the course.
In addition to the Time Trials, three of the Road Races will pass through the area on 6th, 12th, and 13th August.
Tickets are still available for the events across Scotland, but with routes passing through Thornhill and Blair Drummond, we are lucky that the world’s elite cyclists are quite literally flying past our doorsteps. Roots will be heading out to watch and support, aswell as taking the opportunity to promote the beauty and simplicity of pedal power. We are lucky to live in a stunning part of the world, and the Championship is quite a way to showcase our luck. We encourage you to jump on a bike, there are so many benefits. Keep fit, join friends, have fun, explore, laugh, smile, be green, enjoy the fresh air.
